Custom New England Patriots Jerseys

For Cubs, it's wait 'til next year again as hopes of dynasty are deferred

Dynasties just don’t Custom Boston Bruins Jerseys last like they used to.

The 2016 World Series title that ended a century-long drought was supposed to be the first of many for the Chicago Cubs. Instead, they’re headed to their couches for the World Series, resigned to waiting for next year like usual.

The offense that was so potent last year was almost nonexistent this October, with Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Javy Baez, Kyle Schwarber and Addison Russell going a combined 24 of 154 in the postseason. The bullpen was a dumpster fire, giving up 13 runs in the five National League Championship Series games with the Dodgers and 25 overall.

Even Joe Maddon, whose questionable moves last year against the Cleveland Indians were erased by the celebratory champagne, raised new doubts about his game management with some of his late-inning moves.

“The goal every spring training is to win the World Series. We put ourselves in a really good position to get to that point, and we just weren’t able to do it,” Jon Lester said after this Cubs repeat bid ended with an 11-1 NLCS Game 5 rout by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“You can say it’s disappointing because we didn’t make the World Series,” he added. “But you’ve got to look at the positives.”

Indeed, there’s no shame in ending the season in the NLCS. It’s a better finish than the league’s 13 other teams, and a far cry better than all those years when the Cubs could barely see the .500 line, let alone finish above it.

Now consider that the Cubs have been one of the last four teams standing for the last three years.

“Three consecutive years, there’s only one other game up on the scoreboard when you’re playing right now. I Custom New England Patriots Jerseys hope that’s not lost on anybody,” manager Joe Maddon said. “That’s not easy to do.”

But much like the New York Yankees of the late 1990s and the San Francisco Giants of the first half of this decade, these Cubs were built to be champions. They had a dazzling young core with a potential All-Star at every position, led by reigning MVP Kris Bryant. An already formidable rotation was bolstered by the addition of Jose Quintana before the All-Star break.

Wade Davis aside, the bullpen had holes, sure. But that was the case last year, too, and look how that turned out.

Yes, it was all set up to be the Cubs’ year. Again.

That’s the thing about parties 108 years in the making, though. They leave one hell of a hangover.

“I think Custom Boston Bruins Jerseys that really caught up to some of us Custom Golden State Warriors Jerseys this year,” acknowledged Bryant, one of several Cubs who barely had an off-season because of the perks that come with being part of a team that breaks the biggest curse in sports.

It was more mental than physical, and you could see it throughout the year. The Cubs overcame their slow start, going on a tear midway through the season to again win the NL Central. But unlike last season, there was always a feeling they were dancing on a razor’s edge. As likely to implode as they were to get on a hot streak.
